EPEL Named School District U-46 2026 Business Partner of the Year

Enriching Partnerships for Early Learning (EPEL) is honored to share that we were recognized by School District U-46 as the 2026 Business Partner of the Year at the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting on March 4.

U-46 Chief of Staff Brian Lindholm presented the award to EPEL Executive Director Amber Peters during the Chamber’s annual meeting. “EPEL has been a vital partner to School District U-46 in our shared commitment to making sure that kindergarten readiness begins long before a child walks into a classroom,” Lindholm said. “EPEL meets families where they are, listens to their needs, and elevates their voices.”

Peters noted that the recognition reflects the power of collaboration. “While the award says ‘business partner,’ it feels much more like a family working together to create awareness and access for others,” Peters said. “When communities invest in early childhood and meet families where they are, we help build the strong foundation children need to succeed in school and in life.”

Across the Greater Elgin Area, EPEL works with cross-sector partners to strengthen the early childhood system and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. Supporting children in the first 2,000 days of life requires a community-wide effort, and through collaboration with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, and families, EPEL continues to help build a stronger foundation for the region’s youngest learners.

Lindholm also highlighted the continued growth of The Basics of Greater Elgin, launched by EPEL in partnership with U-46. Rooted in five science-based parenting and caregiving principles, The Basics provides everyday tools families can use to support early brain development. Through this initiative, EPEL has trained education and child care professionals, installed engagement stations across the community, and reached hundreds of families. “This broad, collective approach is creating a community-wide culture that helps all young children thrive,” Lindholm said.

EPEL is grateful to School District U-46 for recognizing the importance of this shared work. Peters followed up with, “This honor belongs to the many partners, educators, and families who come together every day to support young children.”

Three cheers for our early childhood INVESTORS AND CHAMPIONS!
