Laundry day just got a little more fun. We have partnered with Wash Smart Laundry to open early learning corners at both of their Elgin locations, so young children can play, talk, and learn while the machines do their work.
Families often spend an hour or two at the laundromat every week. For a young child, that time is full of learning: watching clothes tumble, counting socks, sorting socks, talking about colors with caregivers. Each learning corner has books, toys, and simple learning activities built around the Basics, five research-based ways every caregiver can help children grow:
- Maximize Love, Manage Stress: a hug or a calm moment together while you wait
- Talk, Sing, and Point: name the bubbles in the washer, sing while you fold
- Count, Group, and Compare: count socks, sort socks by color, compare sizes of clothes
- Explore Through Movement and Play: let your child help carry and toss clothes
- Read and Discuss Stories: pick a book from the shelf and read together
The learning corners are free and open during regular laundromat hours.
Thank you to Wash Smart Laundry for helping every child in our community get a strong start!
